Eight of our students were treated to a very special experience from 4-7 March: together with 160 students from the accredited European schools The Hague, Manosque, Talinn, Helsinki, Strasbourg and Frankfurt, they took part in the Model European Council (MEC) in Strasbourg, which was organised for the second time by the local European School.
The many personal encounters and exchanges outside of the official framework, as well as the tour of Strasbourg on the last day, rounded off the experience. At the end of this exciting experience, everyone agreed that the many extra hours of preparation with Mrs Eugenie Uwimbabazi, Mr Björn Lorenzen and Mr Efthymios Sipetzis had been worthwhile and that the MEC was one of the highlights of the school year.

As the “governments” of Ireland and Croatia, the six girls and two boys represented their countries’ positions on topics such as armament, green energy, digitalisation and cyber security, migration, greenwashing or the Middle East conflict in their respective ministerial councils and, together with their homologues from the other countries, struggled for compromises and answered questions from the press teams. The special experience about it was not only that they imitated the original procedures as accurately as possible in costumes, suits and ties – applying formal language – they also did so in the daytime and meeting rooms of the European Parliament!

A big bravo to our 8 “politicians” who engaged with (almost without exception) S6 and S7 students from the other schools, submitted and pushed through written amendments to the proposals, stood up for their ground in discussions and represented our school extremely well!
