The S3s discover artificial intelligence

As part of the activities offered by the Scienteens Lab, the three S3 ICT option groups took a few steps into computer applications created with AI: from facial recognition to the creation of portraits based on a database of famous works of art, the students had fun while questioning the interest and dangers of these techniques.

Under the dynamic (and ‘magical’) guidance of Christophe, a young researcher from the Universities of Fribourg and Luxembourg, the students were able to practise ‘thinking like a computer’ through a number of computational thinking exercises, running prompts and working out answers in ‘binary’ mode.

They also tested the AI's ability to recognise emotions by reading faces. You can try your hand at this by visiting the websites of the following applications: VisageTechnologies ( https://visagetechnologies.com/demo/ ), Face sensing (https://lab.scratch.mit.edu/face/ ), AI Gahaku (https://ai-art.tokyo/en/ ) and others.

A first step into a fast-growing field, full of emerging questions.
