What we offer
Secondary education covers seven years of education with three language sections: a French-speaking section, an English-speaking section and a German-speaking section. These seven years are organised in three cycles: the observation cycle (S1-S3), the pre-orientation cycle (S4-S5) and the orientation cycle (S6- S7) leading to the Baccalaureate.
The École internationale Gaston Thorn will offer S1, S2, S3 and S4 classes in the three language sections English, French and German for the school year 2024-2025. In addition, the school also hosts two classes in the pre-vocational education class (Préparation francophone) and a Welcome class (Classe d'accueil).
S1-S3: Observation Cycle
For the first three years, students follow a common curriculum. Most subjects are taught in the mother tongue (Language 1). From S1 onward all pupils will begin to study a second foreign language (L3). In S3, Humanities and the subject “Life and Society” are taught in the first foreign Language (L2).
S4-S5: Pré-orientation cycle
In this cycle, the Integrated Science course is subdivided into three subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Students have the choice between a regular math course or an advanced course. Other options include Economics in Language 2, a third Foreign Language (Language 4), Arts Education, Musical Education, Latin and Luxembourgish.
S6-S7: Orientation cycle
Year 6 and Year 7 secondary classes form a unit, leading up to the European Baccalaureate. Although there is a core of compulsory subjects, students also have the choice of a wide range of electives which can be two hours per week, four hours per week or at an advanced level.

At EIGT, we offer tailored support lessons to ensure every student’s success. Our flexible support structure adapts to students’ evolving needs across four distinct phases throughout the school year.
General Support:
We provide targeted assistance in key subjects, including Maths and languages, from S1 to S4. Support is structured into four phases:
Phase 1: Starts in early October and runs until the autumn report.
Phase 2: Begins after the autumn report, based on teacher recommendations, and continues until the end of the first semester.
Phase 3: Commences at the start of the second semester and extends to the spring report.
Phase 4: Begins after the spring report and concludes with the end of the school year.
Teachers recommend students for support before each phase, and plans are developed collaboratively to address specific challenges. Students’ progress is closely monitored, with adjustments made as necessary.
Moderate Support:
Focused on learning strategies, organization, and study skills, moderate support is available for students who need additional help. Small group sessions and individualized learning plans ensure personalized attention and effective outcomes.
For any questions related to general, moderate or intensif support, parents can contact the support coordinators at support@eigt.lu.
The orientation team (O-Team) at EIGT is dedicated to fostering the personal growth of our students by focusing on their unique strengths and interests. We recognize the complexities of career guidance, especially in our diverse, international community, where students often experience significant educational mobility. Our mission is to help students navigate their educational and professional opportunities, ensuring their choices align with their personal goals and cultural identities.
Counseling Across Secondary Classes
- ESE Students: We guide students and their families through key educational decisions from S1 to S7, offering tailored advice on language selection, elective choices, and specialization options. Our team provides continuous support, ensuring students are well-informed about the prerequisites for high school and university programs across various countries. We also assist with university exploration, admission criteria, and application processes, collaborating with foreign schools to connect students with expert advisors.
- ACCU Students: For new arrivals in Luxembourg with limited language skills, we offer the ACCU class to help them quickly integrate into the European educational system. The guidance team works closely with the ACCU teacher to provide personalized support, including exploring options within the Luxembourg national education system if beneficial.
- VP Students: We assist in career planning, facilitate educational transitions, and engage parents in the process. Our goal is to ensure students are well-prepared, informed, and supported throughout their educational journey, helping them make decisions that align with their aspirations.
Supporting Transitions
The guidance team also plays a crucial role in helping primary students transition smoothly into secondary school. We provide guidance and support during this significant change, ensuring students and their families feel confident and prepared for the next stage of their education.

The participation in the ACTPA programme is optional, but enrolment implies responsible participation by each student. Extracurricular activities are offered by the school or external partner. The extra-curricular offer is organised during lunch breaks and after school lessons and consists of digital, musical, sports and democracy education activities.
If an extra-curricular activity cannot be offered due to the absence of the person in charge, it will be cancelled without replacement and students will either be able to go home or stay at school, depending on parental agreement.
The secondary school rules were developed through a process of gathering, expanding, and elaborating. It was initiated and implemented by EIGT teachers. They were explained to the students, as well as the staff and parents committee: EIGT Code of conduct (Student version, the document will be available soon).
Our rules are available at the following link: EIGT Code of Conduct (the document will be available soon).
École internationale Gaston Thorn (EIGT) respects the privacy of its students and their parents, adhering to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) enacted on 27 April 2016. Personal data, including photographs, films, and audio files, is used solely for administrative or pedagogical purposes and is kept only while the student is enrolled. Data of students who leave or at the request of parents is deleted after one school year. Processing of this data requires parental consent, which can be withdrawn at any time without affecting prior processing.
On the first day of school, each student receives a personal data form to be completed and signed by parents or legal guardians. This form details the use of personal data at EIGT. For questions about data processing, contact EIGT’s Data Protection Officer, Mrs. Wiltzius, at martine.wiltzius@eigt.lu.
The school also features an EIGT HUB since July 2022. The HUB is a cutting-edge learning environment where students and teachers may discover new ways to learn: they can experiment, explore, and develop utilising diverse tools, materials, and technology.
The HUB’s flexible and adaptable environment is made possible by the modular furniture, which enables students to reorganise the room to meet their needs. This place aims to stimulate creativity and inspiration by combining communication, cooperation, digital literacy, and strategy skills. Students, and also teachers come together in a fun and engaging setting.
The EIGT IT-Charter will be available soon!
Secondary school students can access canteens at Forum Geesseknäppchen and the EIGT building using their MyCard student card. This card can be topped up online at www.restopolis.lu via IAM or with cash directly at the canteen cashier.
Important Reminders:
- Returning Students: Ensure your MyCard is topped up for the first meal of the school year.
